Naples Toledo metro station - the most beautiful in Europe

The American news agency CNN has published a rating of the most beautiful subway stations in Europe.

According to an authoritative publication, the most amazing and original platform in the subway is located in the Italian city of Naples and is called “Toledo”.

Another world-famous newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, approved the choice of its American counterparts.

The Toledo station was opened in September 2012. Its depth is 50 meters, thereby making Toledo the deepest metro station in Naples.

The project of the most beautiful metro station in Europe belongs to the Spanish architect Oscar Tusquets, as well as two artists: William Kentridge and Robert Wilson. An unusual platform is remembered by the inhabitants and guests of Naples: after all, they have not seen this before. The design is done in white and blue tones, and the unique and unusual design of the metro stop gives the impression that you are inside a snow cave, from the ceiling of which drops of water flow down.

The list of the most beautiful metro stations in Europe includes another eleven platforms.

So, the Naples “Toledo” managed to get around its rival “Westfriedhof” in Munich, which is given a special look by huge orange lamps hanging from the ceiling.

The stop of the Munich subway was opened back in 1998 and then it was absolutely inconspicuous and did not stand out. However, everything changed in 2001, when it was decided to install 11 lamps with a diameter of 4 meters on Westfriedhod.

Honorary third place got on the list Moscow "Komsomolskaya".

CNN editors noted that the design of this station is extremely luxurious and even pompous.

Initially, the authors of the Komsomolskaya project were given the following task: since the stop is located in a busy part of the metropolis, it should form the initial opinion of residents and guests of the Russian capital not only about the city, but about the whole country. That is why the decoration of Komsomolskaya’s amazes even the most sophisticated critics: the station is clad in marble, and valuable stones blind their eyes.

CNN has included the Lisbon Metro station in its rating - Olaias, T-Centralen in Stogkolme and others.

It is worth noting that such ratings and lists are created by different news agencies from year to year.

However, over the past two years, the Toledo Station in Naples has invariably occupied the first place.

Nevertheless, earlier the station “Università” was included in the list of the most astonishing ones.

Colorful and bright, it surprises with a modern design and an unusual play of colors of pink, blue and blue tones. The idea of the project belonged to an architect of Anglo-Egyptian origin, Karim Rashid, who came up with another strange but interesting idea to depict the legendary Dante Alighieri and his lover on the steps of the stairs.
