Venice in February - vacation tips

Despite the fact that spring is still not very felt in Venice in February, the city is rather shrouded in fog and damp, tourists from different countries tend to get here. And there is an explanation for this: what kind of couple in love would miss the opportunity to visit one of the most romantic cities in the world? Or what kind of holiday lover refuses to come to the famous carnival? It is for these two reasons that foreign guests are cold and wind for nothing.

Weather

If you describe the weather in Venice in February in one word, it will clearly be the word "changeable".
Gloomy clouds and thick fogs are quickly replaced by sunny and rather warm days, after which, in turn, rain and a cold wind come.
However, despite this, all the light breathing of spring is already felt. So, the average temperature during the day is about 8 degrees above zero, and at night it drops to -1. Therefore, when choosing clothes for walking around the city on the water, consider almost all possible variants of moody weather.

When planning a trip to a magnificent city on the water in the last month of winter, it is worth considering the fact that prices for excursions, accommodation and food significantly increase on the eve of the holidays.

Also keep in mind that you are unlikely to get acquainted with the main attractions of Venice: you probably will not have the patience to stand in a huge queue for tickets. And the queues in Venice in February can not be avoided: the city authorities say that about 500 thousand tourists come to the carnival annually.

Developments

Carnival (January 31 - February 17)

Two weeks before the beginning of Lent, not only ordinary tourists, but also marvelous and even magical creatures and aliens from fairy-tale worlds begin to come to Venice, bringing with them to the city on the water an amazing festive mood and filling Venice with bright colors. That is how the world famous Venice Carnival begins, invariably attracting hundreds of thousands of guests from all over the world.

For all the years that residents of the city have been greeted by a colorful carnival, this event, of course, has “acquired” special traditions. So, for example, from year to year, the whole action begins with the appearance over the main square of Venice, Colombina - a white paper dove, which turns into a confetti firework. Needless to say, festive processions and parades take place here almost every day? Talented street musicians delight tourists not only with their compositions, but also with an unusual appearance that fits perfectly into the theme of the event. In the majestic Doge's Palace, luxurious balls are held, access to which is by invitation only.

One way or another, the whole city is immersed in a festive atmosphere, and even those who initially did not want to buy carnival masks and put on costumes are surprised to find that they quietly became participants in the Venetian madness.

Valentine's Day

On this day, the city on the water is full of couples kissing and exchanging declarations of love, and the city municipality tirelessly registers marriages. The city’s authorities are trying to please the romantic guests and the Venetians as much as possible: for example, some museums on February 14 offer two entrance tickets for the cost of one, and the owners of bars and restaurants congratulate the couple. Valentine's Day will forever remain in the heart and memory of those lovers who were lucky enough to visit Venice on February 14, kiss, swim on a gondola under the Bridge of Sighs, and drink a glass of fine wine in a cozy restaurant on St. Mark's Square.
